AWSN Secure Coding Workshops: Where Code Meets Community
The Australian Women in Security Network (AWSN) is bringing secure coding to life with its upcoming Secure Coding Workshops, inviting developers, technologists, and security professionals to learn how vulnerabilities really get baked into code, and how to prevent them in a fun, supportive, hands-on environment.
Building on the momentum of AWSN’s highly successful Secure Coding Tournament in 2024, which saw women from across Australia tackle real-world vulnerabilities and prove that secure coding is a learnable, practical skill, the workshops are designed to demystify application security. Using gamified challenges powered by Secure Code Warrior, participants work through common flaws such as those in the OWASP Top 10, experiencing both how exploits work and how to fix them.
These workshops aren’t just for seasoned developers. Coders who want to write safer software, security professionals who want deeper insight into how code-level issues arise, and anyone curious about AppSec are encouraged to attend. With support from Commonwealth Bank and Secure Code Warrior, the sessions show that secure coding doesn’t have to be intimidating - it can be collaborative, engaging, and even fun.
Most importantly, the workshops reflect AWSN’s mission to build capability and confidence through community. As demonstrated in last year’s tournament, where participants described the experience as approachable, empowering, and genuinely enjoyable, learning secure coding together helps break down barriers and grow a new generation of security-aware technologists.
If you’ve ever thought secure coding was “too hard” or “not for you,” AWSN’s Secure Coding Workshops are your way to try it out in a fun, inclusive, supportive environment.
The workshops are being held across 3 cities at CBA offices - Melbourne, Sydney and Perth. Register today and secure your spot!
